A Day in the Life

Shifts start with a briefing — weather, NOTAMs, traffic forecasts. Then it's hours of focused communication with pilots, managing separation, and coordinating sectors. Rotating schedules cover 24/7 operations with mandatory rest between shifts.

Many controllers also mentor trainees and contribute to safety initiatives. The profession builds real camaraderie — everyone understands the pressure and has each other's backs.
